The Womens Army Corps Service Medal was established by Executive Order 9365 and promulgated in War Department Bulletin 17, 1943.
Proposed designs were submitted to the Secretary of War for approval on 12 Dec 44 and approved by the Secretary on 16 Dec 44. The design by Mr. Thomas Hudson Jones, Heraldic Branch, Office of the Quartermaster General, has Pallas Athene, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom and the Arts. The ribbon colors are the branch colors of the Womens Army Corps.
