The hydra is depicted in black to suggest the chaotic and unpredictable warfighting domain at sea. The eyes of the beast are colored red to emphasize the mission of locating, disrupting, and destroying the enemy through fire and maneuver. The crested and wavy blue patterns in base symbolize surface warfare while the radiant red chief emphasizes the Squadron’s motto, “FIGHT LIKE HELL.”
Crest. The wreath adopts the first-named metal and color from the shield and blazon. The portcullis represents security and is illustrated using black to convey the strength of the Squadron. The crossed swords emblematize the warfighter spirit. The surface warfighting ship cutting through the ocean alludes to the Surface Warfare insignia and is a reminder of the qualifications required of U.S. Navy personnel who are trained and qualified to perform duties aboard United States surface warships.
