111TH ENGINEER BRIGADE
Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a black diamond shape bearing a white powder horn, mouth to the right, ferruled and stringed gold, at the top a semi-circular scarlet scroll folded back at each side, terminating behind the diamond shape at base and inscribed at the top "MINUTEMEN FOR FREEDOM" in gold letters.

Symbolism
The white powder horn represents the early pioneers, the Greenbrier Long Rifles of the day and the readiness of the present unit. The black diamond shape alludes to the coal fields of West Virginia. Scarlet and white are colors used for Engineer units.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 111th Engineer Group on 11 November 1974. It was redesignated for the 111th Engineer Brigade, with the description and symbolism updated, on 13 November 2006.
