Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
An embroidered shield edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Red border blazoned as follows: Buff, a saltire Gules, bearing a mill rind Azure. Overall dimensions are 2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in width and 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height.

Symbolism

Buff and red are the colors traditionally used by Sustainment units. The saltire, symbolic of Saint Andrews Cross, symbolizes sacrifice. The mill rind, the heraldic symbol for the center of a millstone for grinding wheat, suggests support.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved effective 16 July 2007. The Symbolism was amended 13 July 2023 (TIOH Dwg. No. A-1-922)
