Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
A blue vertical diamond shaped insignia edged with an 1/4 inch (.64 cm) double border, 1/8 inch (.32cm) white inside 1/8 inch (.32cm) red; a large white block type capital letter "T" fimbriated yellow bearing a black ampersand on the downstroke between a smaller white block type capital letter "A" fimbriated yellow on the left and an equal size, color and typeface capital letter "M" on the right, overall a red lightning bolt from upper left to lower right. The overall dimensions are 4 inches (10.16cm) in height and 3 inches (7.62cm) in width.

Symbolism
The insignia reflects the colors associated with the school. The cyphers allude to the school's name. The lightning bolt denotes establishment of the SROTC program with U.S. Army Signal Corps affiliation.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 2 January 1952. It was amended to change the name of the school and update the description and symbolism of the new design on 15 January 1999. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-150)

Description
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/32 inches (2.62 cm) in height consisting of a shield blazoned: Per bend Celeste and Argent a lightning flash bendwise to base throughout Tenne between in sinister a lamp enflamed and in dexter base a Ducal crown, Or.

Symbolism

The blue upper field emphasizes Infantry training; the white lower field symbolizes purity, honesty and singularity of purpose. The crown symbolizes the aggressive and hardy spirit of the rugged frontiersman, Richard King, for whom the spirit of Kingsville is named. The lightning flash symbolizes contributions made while the school was designated as training for the Signal Corps. The lamp is indicative of the high educational aim of the school.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 15 November 1976. It was amended to change the name of the school and update the description and symbolism of the design on 15 January 1999, a new SLI was authorized to remove "Texas A&M University" from the SLI due to a change in the organizational structure on 21 September 2004 currently amended to include updated manufacturing drawings.
