A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per fess enhanced dancetté Or and Gules in base a Korean gateway of the first. Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Gold scroll inscribed ACTION NOT WORDS in Red letters.
The shield is in the colors of Artillery. The dancetté partition line alludes to the hills of Korea and, with the Korean gateway, symbolizes service in that area.
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 143d Field Artillery Battalion on 7 April 1954. It was redesignated for the 143d Armored Field Artillery Battalion on 30 June 1955. The insignia was rescinded on 7 July 1961.
