A white circular device edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) red border, the overall diameter 3 inches (7.62 cm) on which is the white figure of Beneficence, detailed black, between two arced inscriptions "BALL STATE" above and "UNIVERSITY" below, in red letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.
Red and white are the colors of the University. The figure of the Beneficence represents the contributions to the community by the Ball brothers canning jar fame) which made Ball State University possible.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 6 October 1982. It was amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 18 February 2015. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-238)
