Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
On a yellow embroidered horizontal oval disc displaying a silhouette of a pony express rider; between an arched inscription "PONY EXPRESS" at top and "BATTALION" at bottom all in black letters. The overall dimension are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in length and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Black and gold are the school colors. The Pony Express Rider is the battalion's mascot representing swiftness and determination. Black symbolizes dependability, a trait the cadet's demonstrate with the reliability to "get the job done". Gold (yellow) is emblematic for the honor, wisdom and excellence gained by the cadets through the ROTC program. The oval shape insignia alludes to the Pony Express postmark of 1860.

Background
the shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) was originally authorized for wear by SROTC cadets attending Missouri Western State College by letter DAAG-HDP-A, The Institute of Heraldry dated 10 May 1972, is further amended this date retroactively to include the school's name change from Missouri Western State College to Missouri Western State University, and update the description and symbolism of the new design on 02 June 2015.

Description
A Silver color metal and epoxy device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Celeste, upon a base Argent (Silver), charged with a bar wavy Azure, a representation of a clock tower Or. Attached below the shield, a Black scroll inscribed "LEAD TO VICTORY" in Silver.

Symbolism
Black and gold are the school colors. Light blue represents the skyline of Missouri. Silver Gray suggest sincerity of the MWSU students in their leadership role. Blue signifies loyalty the cadet's show for their school and community. Gold (yellow) is emblematic for the honor, wisdom and excellence gained by the cadets through the ROTC program. The wavy bar alludes to the Missouri River and the clock tower is a representation of Missouri landmark on campus.

the shoulder loop insignia (SLI) was originally authorized for wear by SROTC cadets attending Missouri Western State College by letter DAAG-HPD-A, The Institute of Heraldry dated 10 May 1972 and amended to reflect the current designation of the school by letter dated 15 July 1977, is further amended this date retroactively to include the school's name change from Missouri Western State College to Missouri Western State University, and update the description and symbolism of the new design on 2 June 2015.
