Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a purple embroidered disc edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, a white silhouette of the state of Texas within laurel wreath issuing from behind an open book in base, all encircled by a purple designation band edged with a 1/8 (.32 cm) yellow border, inscribed "PRAIRIE VIEW A & M UNIVERSITY" arcing at top above bearing four stars, all yellow. The overall diameter is 3 1/8 inches (7.94 cm).


Symbolism

Purple and Yellow the colors of the University. The laurel wreath issuing from an open book suggests achievement in academics. The silhouette of Texas indicates the location of the school. The stars represent honor, knowledge, integrity and responsibility acquired by the cadets through participation in the ROTC program.


Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 13 November 1989, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 7 March 2016. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-52)

Description

A gold colored metal and epoxy shield shaped device, blazoned as follows: Or, a panther lunging guardant bend sinisterwise Sable; on a chief Purpure a mullet of the first. Attached below the shield, a yellow scroll inscribed "LEADERSHIP" in purple.


Symbolism

Purple and Yellow the colors of the University. The panther is the school's mascot.

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 27 July 1956, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 7 March 2016.
