Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a red keystone shaped embroidered item, within a black U', two black T', the smaller letter surmounting the larger letter, forming a monogram, all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border. Overall dimensions are 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Red and black are the colors of Texas Tech University. The monogram reflects the acronym for the school, Texas Tech University. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-265)


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved 26 February 1970, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 14 June 2016.

Description

A silver colored metal and epoxied keystone-shaped device, 1 1/4 (3.18 cm) in height consisting of the background divided diagonally from upper left to lower right, black over red, on which is the coat of arms of the university blazoned as follows: Argent (Silver), a cross charged with ten cotton balls, between in the first quarter an open book bendwise, in the second quarter a mullet, in the third quarter a key palewise, wards upward and to sinister and in the fourth quarter, a lamp, all of the first. Perched upon the shield an eagle wings expanded and inverted of the first. Above the image the inscription "ROTC" in silver and below the image a silver scroll with the inscription "LEADERSHIP" in black.


Symbolism

The design, based upon that of the Texas Tech University Seal.


Background

The shoulder loop Insignia was originally authorized 29 April 1968. It was amended due to the school name change on 23 September 1994, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 14 June 2016.
