Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a silver vertical rectangular shape embroidered item arched convexly at top and bottom edged with an 1/8 inches (0.32 cm) blue border, a white chevron reversed; overall a blue stylized Viking's head couped facing right, eye in white. Attached above a silver scroll edged with a 1/8 (.32 cm) blue border inscribed "ECSU" in blue. Attached below a silver scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border inscribed "VIKINGS" in blue letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) width.


Symbolism

The Viking is the school's mascot; embodying the warrior spirit and passion of the students and instructors. The reversed chevron is indicative of military affiliation and also resembles the letter "V" for Vikings. Blue and white are the school's colors.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 4 March 1983. It was cancelled due to a new design on 22 December 2016. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-270)

Description

On a shield shaped Silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Azure, a pile Argent; overall a demi battle axe issuant from base Argent (Silver Gray), all within a diminished bordure of the last. Attached below the shield, a Red scroll inscribed with "TO LIVE IS TO LEARN" in Silver.


Symbolism

The battle axe is indicative of Vikings, a tribute to the school's mascot. The pile resembles the letter "V" for Vikings. Blue and white are the school's colors.


Background

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 20 October 1983. It was cancelled due to a new design on 22 December 2016.
