Description

On a black circular embroidered item edged with a 1/16 inch (.16 cm) black border, the overall diameter is 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm), an orange cross patty surmounted with a white chain link ring, overall a white torch with yellow flames: all within an orange designation band edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border and inscribed "AUSTIN" at top and "HIGH SCHOOL" at bottom in black letters.


Symbolism

Burnt orange and black are the school colors. The cross patty symbolizes the cadets at the crossroads of education and their involvement "fanning" out into school, family, community and country. The ring of chain denotes their unity as a battalion. The torch reflects their abilities as leaders.


Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized on 8 May 1996, it was amended to add the ACU color conversions on 19 November 2018.
