Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Blazon

A shield shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32cm) Purple border, blazoned as follows: Argent, a sunburst Tenné, fimbriated Or, overall a parrot to sinister Proper, perched upon a twig fesswise Purpure. Attached above the shield, a white scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) purple border with the inscription, “SEGAULA” in orange letters. Overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inch (8.89 cm) in height by 2 5/8 inch (6.67cm) in width.


Symbolism

Purple and white are the school colors. The parrot, or segaula, is the school’s mascot. Having been kept as pets by the kings of Manu’a, the segaula is a symbol of royalty in Samoan culture. The sun is also a significant symbol, signifying opportunity and leadership. The bright hues used in the design characterize the colorful landscape and highly expressive nature of traditional Samoan art and design.

Blazon

On a shield shaped silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Per pale Argent and Vert, issuant from base a demi-sun in splendor throughout Or. Attached to the sides and bottom of the shield is a purple scroll, with the inscription “THINK, TRANSFORM, THRIVE” in silver letters.


Symbolism

Purple and white are the school colors. Green denotes the lush tropical landscape of Manu’a. The sun is commonly used in Samoan culture to indicate richness and rebirth. Similarly, in heraldry, the rising sun is a symbol of hope and happiness in each new day. Both meanings serve as a reminder of the endless opportunities that an education  provides.
