Symbolism

Black and gold is the school colors. Gold reflects the school’s generosity in helping its students and the surrounding community. Black signifies the constancy the school embodies to accomplish its goals. The bust of the woman in the first section of the shield, honors Michele Clark, an African American Chicago based journalist in which the school is named. The eagle is the school’s mascot, representing the courage, stamina, and leadership instilled in the cadets. The scroll and quill pen symbolizes wisdom and the pursuit of knowledge, also pointing to Clark’s career in journalism. The atomic symbol refers to the school’s academic curriculum in STEM programs.
