The coat of arms was originally approved for the 308th Military Police Battalion on 21 May 1938. It was redesignated for the 508th Military police Battalion on 15 April 1944. It was amended to change the blazonry of the shield on 17 August 1964. The insignia was amended to add a crest on 27 July 2005.
