Description/Blazon
On a Silver color metal and enamel shield shaped device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Sable, a torch Or, surmounted by a bear paw print Sanguine. Attached above, a Silver scroll inscribed "MSU" in Maroon enamel letters.

Symbolism
Black and maroon are the school colors. The unit is called "The Bear Battalion." The bear is the school mascot.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 7 April 2009.

Description

On a white vertical rectangle arched convexly at top and bottom edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) maroon border, displaying dark gray claw marks surmounted by a maroon stylized bear's head, facing the viewer, detailed white and outlined black. Attached above the rectangle, a white scroll edged with a 1/8 inches (.32 cm) maroon border inscribed "MISSOURI STATE" in maroon letters. Attached below the rectangle, a white scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32cm) maroon border inscribed "BEARS" in maroon letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.

Symbolism

The Missouri brown bear is the Missouri State University mascot. The bear is a strong and powerful animal that commands respect due to its strength and ferocity, symbolizing the spirit of the warrior. The claw marks signify all the schools that fall within the MSU ROTC program.

Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized on 10 May 1965. It was amended due to the school name change and a new design on 27 March 2009, currently it is hereby cancelled for a new design on 13 March 2016. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-261)
