On a yellow reversed chevron-shaped shield, a yellow bunt, detailed black, of a Spanish Don clad in black hat, mask and blouse and grasping a yellow sword. Attached below the shield a green scroll inscribed "DONS" in yellow letters 5/8 inch (1.59 cm) in height, all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 3/4 inches (6.67 cm) inches in width.
Green and gold are the University colors. The Spanish Don is the school's mascot and alludes to the history of the school's location. The sword reflects the military training received by the cadets.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the University of San Francisco 24 April 1972. It was amended 3 April 1990 to change the profile of the Don and add a motto and metric dimensions. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-59)
