Description/Blazon

A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Azure, issuing from chief a lightning flash Argent. Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Blue scroll inscribed "A BOLT FROM THE BLUE" in Silver letters.

Symbolism

The shield is blue for Infantry. The lightning flash represents the sudden striking power of the organization.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 25 February 1942.
