A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a point shield blazoned: Azure, a pale fitchee to honor point Vert fimbriated Or, in pale a baton and two bolos saltirewise, cutting edges to chief, of the last. Attached below the shield a Blue scroll turned Gold inscribed "VALOR FOR SERVICE" in Gold letters.

Symbolism
The shield is blue for Infantry. The crossed bolos represent service in the Philippines; the green pale fitchee, Mexican Border duty; and the baton is taken from the coat of arms of Varennes in the Argonne.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 13 October 1930.
