Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
A rectangular shield-shaped device with a horizontal scroll attached above the shield, the overall dimensions 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 3 inches (7.62 cm) in width, consisting of a white shield edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) red border on which is a yellow Lamp of Knowledge above a fighting game cock (head white and red, body, tail feathers and upper legs red, beak and lower legs, claws and talons yellow). On a white scroll the inscription "JACKSONVILLE" in red letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 19 January 1951. It was cancelled due to the modification of the new design and authorized on 12 August 1975.
Shoulder Loop Insignia
Within a red circular band bearing the motto "EXEGI MONUMENTUM AERE PERENNIUS" (I have built a monument more lasting than bronze) a silver Norman shield charged with a red oak tree.
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 27 July 1950.
