Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description
On a golden orange shield 3 3/8 inches (8.57 cm) in height and 2 13/16 inches (7.14 cm) in width a brown Falcon in flight, above the brown block letters "ROTC" in a concave arc, at top on a brown bar the orange block letters "BGSU", the entire shield border brown.

Symbolism
Golden orange and brown are the University colors. The Flacon is the school mascot.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia originally authorized 20 May 1954 was amended 25 October 2006 to update the description and symbolism. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-183




Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description
A Gold color metal and enamel insignia 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per fess debased Or and Sable, a mailed dexter hand erased apaumé grasping a torch Proper. Attached above the shield a Black scroll doubled and inscribed "BLACK SWAMP" in Gold.

Symbolism
Brown and orange are the school colors. The black background alludes to the Black Swamp area in which the University is located. The mailed fist and torch with flame represents military learning and training.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was approved 16 November 1987.
