Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description
A blue circular device edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, the overall diameter 3 inches (7.62 cm) with a blue inner disc edged with a 1/16 inch (.16 cm) yellow border; on which is a yellow eagle with wings elevated, descending, poised for attack. Around the inner disc a blue band with the inscription "EMBRY-RIDDLE" above and "AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY" below in yellow letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.

Symbolism
Blue and gold are the colors of the University.  The eagle in flight represents the mission and goals of the university.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was 7 March 1983.




Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, divided vertically in half by blue enamel on the left and yellow enamel on the right; superimposed in the center a silver winged sword, hilt and pommel at the base, blade pointed up with wings ascending from the upper portion of the blade.  Attached below and around the shield, a silver scroll inscribed "VIRTUS PER DOCTRINAM" in blue enamel letters.

Symbolism
Blue and gold are the colors associated with the University.  The sword is indicative of the military and to leadership.  The wings refer to the aviation and its missions.  The silver reflects the motto of the University, translated "Strength through Knowledge."

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 19 April 1983.
