Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
On a yellow disc 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in diameter overall, edged with a 3/16 inch (.48 cm) yellow border, a yellow disc 2 inches (5.08 cm) in diameter with a narrow white border 1/8 inch (.32 cm) in width and a black designation band 7/16 inch (1.11 cm) in width, bearing a stylized bulldog head eyed red and displaying white teeth. The yellow disc is embroidered "BOWIE STATE" above and "UNIVERSITY" below in 5/16 inch (.79 cm) yellow letters.

Symbolism
The bulldog is the school's mascot. Black and gold (yellow) are the school colors, and along with the red and white details, hint at the colors of the State of Maryland.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 27 July 1989. It was amended to change the design and update the description and symbolism of the new design on 14 November 2002. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-11)

Description
On a Gold disc 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a badge blazoned: On a field Or, a demi-bulldog rampant of the like encircled by a dog collar Sable edged, studded and detailed with a heavy buckle of the field. Inscribed "BULLDOG BATTALION" in Gold letters.

Symbolism
The bulldog is the school's mascot. Black and gold (yellow) are the school colors.

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 22 May 1990. It was amended to change the design and update the description and symbolism of the new design on 14 November 2002.
