A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height consisting of a shield blazoned: Gules, a quill pen and a sword crossed in saltire Or, Crest: On a wreath Or and Gules a fasces fesswise Or, banded Vert, MOTTO: "DUCES IN PACE AUT BELLO (LEADERS IN PEACE OR WAR).
The shield is red for Artillery, with the charges thereon symbolical of the functions of a ROTC unit. The crest is taken from the seal of the State of Colorado.
The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 9 August 1935. It was amended to change the name of the school to Colorado State University on 29 September 1959.
