Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
A green circular insignia edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) gold border, the overall diameter 3 inches (7.62 cm) consisting of three gold stylized mountains peaks above a green triangle outlined gold and bearing a gold eye of learning, all within an arced inscription "COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY" in yellow letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm).

Symbolism
Green and gold are the colors of the University. The three stylized mountain peaks and the triangle with the eye of learning taken from the seal of the University.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 29 June 1981 currently amended to include an updated manufacturing drawing on 15 January 2014. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-217)

Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height consisting of a shield blazoned: Gules, a quill pen and a sword crossed in saltire Or, Crest: On a wreath Or and Gules a fasces fesswise Or, banded Vert, MOTTO: "DUCES IN PACE AUT BELLO (LEADERS IN PEACE OR WAR).

Symbolism
The shield is red for Artillery, with the charges thereon symbolical of the functions of a ROTC unit. The crest is taken from the seal of the State of Colorado.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 9 August 1935. It was amended to change the name of the school to Colorado State University on 29 September 1959.
