A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per fess nebule Gules and Or, in chief a war club and in base a Gansa ceremonial drum counterchanged. Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Gold scroll inscribed E COELIS VINCAMUS in Red letters.
The colors red and yellow are used for Field Artillery. The partition line, heraldic symbol for clouds, indicates this organization is Airborne. The war club, commonly used by the natives of New Guinea, symbolizes service there. The Gansa ceremonial drum, used by the natives of the Philippines, represents service in that country. The motto translates to From The Sky, We Strike.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 25 August 1952.
