Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description/Blazon
On an oblong shield arched at top and bottom 2 inches (5.08 cm) in width and 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height overall, a yellow rolled scroll in saltire with a yellow sword with point at upper right and hilt at lower left in front of a yellow flaming torch all on a purple field, the torch flame centered upon an arched row of five purple bricks outlined white and capped with three purple battlements, all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border.

Symbolism
Purple and white are the colors used for Civil Affairs units. The simulated wall section at the top is symbolic of cities and human population and in this instance, along with the scroll, sword and torch, alludes to the Civil Affairs mission of the Command. Yellow, synonymous with gold in heraldry, signifies excellence and achievement.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 11 April 1977.  (TIOH Dwg. No. A-1-612)
