A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Vert on a pedestal a representation of the Greek mythological god, Atlas, supporting on his shoulder a globe Argent. Attached below the shield is a Silver scroll inscribed "MAINTIEN LE DROIT" in Black.
The figure of Atlas supporting the globe is symbolic of the maintenance functions of the organization in that the globe is an allusion to the extreme weight of armored vehicles which the Battalion services and repairs. The motto translates to "Support The Right" is a further reference to the unit's maintenance mission, and is representative of the original service of the organization.
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 3d Armored Division Maintenance Battalion on 28 September 1942. It was redesignated for the 122d Armored Ordnance Maintenance Battalion on 16 December 1949. It was redesignated for the 122d Ordnance Battalion on 15 July 1958. The insignia was redesignated for the 122d Maintenance Battalion on 6 March 1964. It was redesignated for the 122d Support Battalion with the description and symbolism amended on 1 May 1987.
