Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a vertical dark blue anchor supporting on its shank a shield divided quarterly with white and red and charged at center with a gold grid lined globe also quartered and of the same colors counterchanged, all upon a gold compass rose of sixteen points.

Symbolism
The combined hydrographic and topographic missions are represented by the shield from the former Topographic Center seal and the anchor from that of the former Hydrographic Center.  The compass rose alludes to the worldwide scope of the organization's mission.  The colors, dark blue and gold, are adapted from the seal of the Department of Defense, suggesting the Center's support of the Armed Forces and other Federal Agencies.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved for wear by the US Army personnel assigned to the Center effective 2 May 1979.
