Chaplain Candidate

Description

Over the lower corners of an open book, two laurel branches crossed at the stems overall a shepherds crook, all gold. The insignia is 1 inch (2.54 cm) in height and 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in width.

Symbolism

The book represents regulations, while the laurel sprays symbolize the honors received in the adminstration of military regulations. The shepherds crook represents the spirtual nature of the regulations.

Background

The chaplain candidates were transitioned from the Staff Specialist Branch to the Chaplain Branch which left the candidates without an authorized branch insignia. The Chief of Chaplains submitted a request for collar insignia which was approved by HQDA, G-1 on 23 February 2012. The design for the collar insignia was authorized on 18 June 2012. The cloth insignia will be worn above the name on the ACU blouse.
