Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
A 2 inch (5.08 cm) disc having within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) outer red border a 1/16 inch (.16 cm) white border around a blue center on which is a star composed of five white diamonds joined at the center and connected at their widest point by a white circle 1/16 inch (.16 cm) in width.

Symbolism
The five lozenges represent the functions of the Command in support of combat units.  They also allude to the numerical designation of the unit.  Red, white and blue represent the United States national colors.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the 5th Logistical Command on 21 August 1962.  It was redesignated for the 5th Support Command and amended to revise the symbolism effective 21 October 1978.  The insignia was redesignated for the 5th Theater Army Area Command with the description revised effective 1 November 1989.  (TIOH Dwg.
