A device of gold color metal and enamel 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a continuous red scroll in the form of a figure 8 with the word SUPPORT inscribed on the upper arch and WITH SERVICE in the lower arch all in gold letters; centered within the scroll a gold boot with a blue spur rowel of five points on the right and centered upon the calf a blue cross with arms terminating in arrowheads.
The gold boot with blue spur symbolizes the units activation at Leghorn and continuous service in Italy since 1960. The cross, suggested by the civic arms of Pisa as well as the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 8th Logistical Command, refers to the units location between the cities of Pisa (site of an airfield) and Leghorn (a seaport) and the pointers allude to the scope of the units activities in the Mediterranean area. The shape of the scroll denotes the units numerical designation.
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 8th Logistical Command on 23 July 1969. It was redesignated for the 8th Support Group on 16 March 1976.
