Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description

On a shield shaped silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 (2.86cm) in height blazoned as follows: Or, a bordure Sable surmounted by a pile enarched of the last, bearing a stylized representation of the 101st Airborne screeching eagle Argent (Silver Gray). Attached below the shield, a tri-parted Maroon scroll inscribed with BITE OF THE EAGLE in Silver.



Symbolism

The border and enarched pile resemble an open beak of an eagle. This alludes to the motto of BITE OF THE EAGLE and recalls the screeching eagle of the 101stAirborne division, whose home is at Fort Campbell. Maroon and white are the traditional colors of the Army Medical Department. Silver metal denotes precision and sterility.
