Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description. A hexagon 3 inches(7.62 cm) in height by 2 inches (5.08 cm) in width overall having within an 1/8(.32 cm) inch wide yellow border a scarlet field and centered thereon a yellowarrow with point at the top and shaft split into three segments in base,surmounted above center by two crossed light blue bayonets and having centeredoverall a black cannon barrel.

 

Symbolism. Scarlet and yelloware the colors associated with the artillery branch.  The large arrow symbol of the backgroundsuggests a missile firing and thus represents the missile units of the brigade;the crossed bayonets represent infantry and the cannon barrel refers to theartillery battalion.  The points at topand bottom suggest firepower and accuracy.

 

Background. The shouldersleeve insignia was approved for the 214th Field Artillery Brigade on 5 April1982.  It was redesignated for the 214thFires Brigade with the description updated on 10 October 2006.  Redesignated to 214 Field Artillery Brigadeby AAMH-FPO memo dated 1 October 2014,  (TIOH Dwg. Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description. A device of goldcolor metal and enamel 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height consisting of a goldfleur-de-lis having superimposed on its central segment a black artillery piecewith muzzle at top emitting a red and gold blast; enclosing the lower part ofthe device a blue wavy scroll terminating at either side of the fleur-de-lisand bearing the inscription NATURALLY WE LEAD in gold letters.

 

Symbolism. The colors goldand scarlet are those of the Field Artillery Branch.  The black field piece firing is an allusionto the return of the Branch to its more traditional role.  The wavy blue scroll is a reference to overseasservice and the fleur-de-lis, a symbol widely used in continental heraldry, isfor service in the European Theater of World War II.


Background. The distinctiveunit insignia was originally approved for the 214th Artillery Group on 16January 1969.  It was redesignated forthe 214th Field Artillery Group on 7 April 1972. The insignia was redesignatedfor the 214th Field Artillery Brigade on 23 July 1981.  It was redesignated for the 214th FiresBrigade with the description updated on 10 October 2006.  Redesignated to 214 Field Artillery Brigadeby AAMH-FPO memo dated 1 October 2014.
