Shield
Oriental blue and silver gray are the colors traditionally associated with Military Intelligence units. The helmet is adapted from the device of the unit's parent organization, the 513th Military Intelligence Group, and reflects the unit's original allocation. The helm on the checky background symbolizes counter-intelligence activities. The lightning flash denotes speed and electronic warfare. The torch symbolizes truth and alludes to interrogation. The dragon, a mythical guardian of treasures, symbolizes security and strength.
Crest
The scimitars signify the Battalions campaign participation in Southwest Asia; the quill pen denotes the Cease-Fire action during this campaign. The sword symbolizes the military readiness for the continual operations for the War on Terrorism. The heraldic rose represents Military Intelligence. Red suggests daring; gold conveys perception. The four red barbs indicate the four decorations awarded to the unit.
