Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Or, a dragon passant in bend Sable incensed and armed Gules between two wings of the last.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Gold scroll inscribed "HONNEUR POUR OBJECT" in Black letters.

Symbolism
The scarlet and gold are for the Coast Artillery; the monstrous winged dragon is representative of the airborne antiaircraft functions of the battalion in conjunction with the two scarlet wings.  The motto translates to "Honor For Aim" and being in French alludes to the state of activation, Louisiana, and is expressive of the manner in which the personnel perform all their duties.

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 81st Airborne Antiaircraft Battalion on 14 November 1942.  It was redesignated for the 81st Airborne Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion on 30 July 1958.
