Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Per bend arched Azure and Gules, in chief four mullets in the form of the Southern Cross and in base an artillery missile all Argent.  Attached below the shield a Silver scroll inscribed "FAC NUNC" in Blue letters.

Symbolism
The four white (silver) stars on the blue field, taken from the shoulder sleeve insignia of the Americal Division, represent the Battalion's World War II battle honors awarded for service with that Division in the Pacific area.  The arched line dividing the shield represents a guided missile's trajectory.  Red is used for Artillery.  The motto translates to "Do It Now."

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 30 November 1953.
