Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
A circular embroidered device 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter overall consisting of a blue disc edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border on which is a silver gray ray, originating in the top center of the disc and expanding to base surmounted by a white falcon with wings elevated.

Symbolism
Royal blue and white are the colors of the University. The falcon is the schools mascot. The ray, from the design of the organization seal, recognizes the role of Saint Augustine's in the community from its origin to present day.

Background
 The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 31 January 1975.  It was amended to update the description and symbolism, add metric measurements, add cable numbers, and provide a manufacturing drawing on 2 December 2008, currently amended to update manufacturing drawings on 8 September 2014.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-193)

Description
A silver colored metal and enamel shield shaped device, 1 3/16 (3.02 cm) in height overall blazoned as follows: Azure, on a pile reversed throughout Argent, a representation of the university chapel Argent (Silver gray) masoned dark gray, window and doorway Sable.  Attached below the shield, a blue scroll, with the Latin inscription "VERITAS VOS LIBERABIT" which translate to "The Truth will set You Free", in silver.  

Symbolism
Royal blue and white are the colors of Saint Augustine University.  The representation of the University chapel alludes to the historic origin of the university, made possible by the legacy of a Methodist minister and the principal thrust of the Protestant Episcopal Church, for the education of freed slaves. The ray is a symbol of hope and enlightenment and is used in recognition of the schools role in the community from its origin to present day.
