Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield blazoned:  Per chevron Gules and Argent (Silver), in chief a pallet, between in dexter a winged foot and in sinister a lamp of knowledge, all of the second, in base a bust head in profile Or.  Attached below the shield, a Black bi-parted scroll inscribed SPARKMAN on the left and SENATORS on the right all in silver.

Symbolism
Cardinal red and black are the school colors, indicating the commitment and determination of the students to become leaders in both the school and the community. Silver suggest truth and success in all endeavors. The lamp represents as well as enlightenment and knowledge.  The winged foot symbolizes transition.  The bust alludes to the Alabama schools name sake, Senator John Jackson Sparkman, for which the school is named.

Description

A vertical rectangular shaped embroidered item arched convexly at top and bottom edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) black border, consisting a divided vertically wavy through the center, crimson to the left and white to the right, displaying vertically black wavy bar, throughout. Attached above the rectangle, a crimson scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) black border inscribed “SPARKMAN” in black. Attached below the rectangle, a crimson scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (0.32 cm) black border inscribed “SENATORS” in black. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.86 cm) in width.


Symbolism

Crimson and black are the school colors. The undulating path resembles the shape of the letter “S” in tribute to the Senator, the school’s mascot and Mr. John Jackson Sparkman, for whom the school is named. Furthermore, the path portrays the adventure the cadets of the JROTC program are just beginning; the journey is not straight forward, but rather the cadets will face challenges and opportunities along their way.
