Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

Description:  On an embroidered shield shaped item, arched convexly at the top and rounded outwardly at base, edged with a 1/8-inch (.32 cm) orange border, blazoned as follows; Argent, four cost sinister Gules, overall a silhouetted of a winged dog in flight bendwise Sable, head towards sinister base. Attached above the shield a white scroll arched convexly at the top, inscribed “LAPORTE” and attached below the shield, a white scroll arched convexly at base, inscribed “BULLDOGS”, all red. 


Symbolism

Orange and white are the school colors. The bulldog is the school’s mascot.

The Shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) originally authorized on 12 January 1977; it was currently updated on 15 June 2022.

Description

A silver color metal and epoxied device 1-1/8 inch (2.86cm) in height consisting of a white bulldog head with black eyes, wearing a red collar bearing five white spikes, between two vertically placed silver wings; attached at the top of the images, an orange scroll inscribed “LAPORTE" and at base of the wing tips surmounting an orange scroll inscribed “BULLDOGS” all in silver letters.


Symbolism

Orange and White are the school colors. Orange symbolizes strength and endurance of each student to accomplish the challenging demands of academic life.  White exemplifies pride, honesty, and sincerity in the student’s relationship to the community and academia. The bulldog is the school’s mascot, signifying tenacity. The wings suggest the cadets soaring to great heights, as well as overcoming all obstacles. Red denotes commitment.
