A shield-shaped embroidered item, blazoned as follows: Azure, an open book Or, surmounted by a torch enflamed and quill, point downward, in saltire of the first. Attached above, a Blue scroll inscribed MOREHEAD in Yellow; all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Yellow border. The overall dimensions are 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 inches (5.08 cm) in width.
Blue and gold are the universitys colors.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 28 February 1969. It was amended to add subdued colors and metric measurements on 5 January 1990 and currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 9 January 2015. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-53)
