Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
On a white shield edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) purple, a white bulldog head couped, outlined and detailed purple, gorged with a purple collar, spiked white.  Attached below the shield a white scroll edged with a narrow purple border and inscribed TRUMAN STATE in purple letters.  The overall dimensions are 3 5/8 inches (9.21 cm) in height by 3 1/8 inches (7.94 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Purple and white are the colors of the University.  The bulldog is the schools mascot and reflects the strength and dedication of the cadets.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 30 October 1980.  It was amended due to a name change of the school from NORTHEAST MISSOURI to TRUMAN STATE on 28 October 1996.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-136)

Description
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield of white enamel, with a blue enamel chief, overall a red enamel chevron shaped area originating in fess and extending over the chief to the top of the shield; on the red enamel portion a gold color metal grizzly bear.  Attached below the shield a gold color metal scroll inscribed TRUMAN STATE UNIVERSITY in blue enamel letters.

Symbolism
The colors of red, white and blue represent the patriotic love of country.  The grizzly bear is native to the Missouri River and its tributaries.  The grizzly bear represents strength and courage.

Background

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 29 September 1970.  It was amended due to a name change of the school from Northeast Missouri State University to Truman State University on 28 October 1996.
