Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
On a blue disc a white representation of the entrance to the Rutherford County Courthouse detailed black and gray surrounded by a red designation band fimbriated white edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border and inscribed RUTHERFORD COUNTY in white letters arcing above three yellow stars in base.  The overall dimensions are 3 3/16 inches (8.10 cm) in diameter.

Symbolism
The red, white and blue pattern of the insignia suggests the State of Tennessee flag and reflects the cadets patriotism to state and country.  The representation of the county courthouse symbolizes the cadets dedication and pride in their community.  The stars represent knowledge, leadership and physical preparedness of the cadets.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 25 October 1991.  It was cancelled due to a new design and updated description and symbolism on 29 July 1996, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 22 April 2015.   (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-514)

Description
A Silver color metal and enamel device consisting of a shield blazoned:  Argent, a lion rampant regardant of the like fimbriated Azure, in dexter chief an Alder tree Vert, on a sinister canton of the second a sword bendwise, point up, between two fleurs-de-lis Agent.  Attached below the shield, a Blue scroll inscribed LAVERGNE in silver letters. 

Symbolism
Blue and white (silver) are the school colors.  The lion reflects the military training of the cadets to be defensive and ever watchful.  The Alder tree reflect the schools name.  The sword between the fleurs-de-lis suggests the cadets training as in military aspects to defend the country and home.  The fleursde-lis refer to the iris, the state flower of Tennessee.
