The triangle reflects the three principal attributes of the school, technology, engineering and science. The pickaxe and hammer are indicative of mining tools, and paired within the triangle, are taken from the schools seal.
The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 17 July 1959. It was amended to update the designation scroll on 5 December 1979. It is hereby cancelled this date due to a new design and description and symbolism.
