Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a blue disc with a white arched base surrounded by a white designation band edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) outer border and a narrow blue inner border inscribed THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE above and UNIVERSITY below in blue letters; a yellow mountain lion crouching on the upper edge of the arching base and overlapping the designation band.  The overall dimensions are 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter.


Symbolism
Blue and white are the colors of the University.  The mountain lion is the schools mascot and is emblematic of the cadets cunning and strength of leadership.

Background

he shoulder sleeve was originally authorized on 25 August 1965.  It was amended to add subdued colors, metric measurements, and correct the school designation band on 11 August 1992, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 12 February 2016. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-93)

Description

A Gold color metal epoxied shield shaped device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall blazoned as follows: Per fess arched Azure and Argent in chief a mountain lion crouching Or, in base a keystone of the first all within a bordure of the second.


Background

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 1 June 1973, currently amended to update the description and manufacturing drawings on 12 February 2016.
