Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a yellow disc 3 1/8 inches (7.94 cm) in diameter overall and edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, a light yellow sun charged with a scarlet devil head affront detailed black.


Symbolism
The yellow sun symbol denotes the location of the unit and reflects the ever present phoenix sun and the relentless desert heat. The sun devil, symbolized by the combination of the devil head and the sun symbol, is the mascot of the school and lends its name to the Sun Devil Battalion.

Background
the shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized on 4 December 1967. It was amended to update the description and add a symbolism on 27 October 1993, currently amended to update the subdued cable colors and manufacturing drawings on 13 January 2016. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-118)

Description

On a shield shaped Gold metal and epoxied device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Sanguine, a sun in glory Or and Sanguine, surmounted by a demi-trident of the second issuant from base, enflamed of the first, all within a diminished bordure Or.


Symbolism

Maroon and gold are the colors of Arizona State University.  The pairing of a sun and enflamed trident allude to the schools mascot of a sun-devil.


Background
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 13 January 2016.
