Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a yellow disc edged red, a coiled snake Proper, within a blue designation band edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) red border, inscribed ST MARYS at the top and at base UNIVERSITY, between two horizontal diamonds all yellow, its overall dimensions 3 1/8 inches (7.34 cm) in diameter.


Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved 3 March 1950.  It was amended to add the subdued colors on 5 November 1982, it is currently amended to update the description, symbolism and manufacturing drawing on 23 February 2016. (TIOH Number A-10S-256)

Description

A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 5/32 inches (2.94 cm) in height consisting of a shield blazoned as follows: Celeste (Oriental Blue), the stylized figure of Our Lady of the Pillar Argent (Silver) between in dexter a mullet ascending bendwise emitting three contrails and in sinister three crescents interlaced of the second on the base of the last, a stack of ammo beside a cannon Celeste (Oriental Blue), attached below the shield a Blue scroll inscribed PRO DEO ET PATRIA which translates to FOR GOD AND COUNTRY in Silver. The shield and scroll are superimposed upon a Silver cross extended throughout.


Background

The first shoulder loop insignia design was approved 7 June 1950 that was cancelled and the current design was approved on 22 April 1980. It was amended to update the description on 11 January 2001, it is currently amended to update the description, symbolism and manufacturing drawing on 23 February 2016.
