Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

A gold pentagon edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border the overall dimensions 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height on which is a gold and black beveled five-pointed star below the inscription FULTON COUNTY in black letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.


Background
 The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved 16 October 1981. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-761)

Description

A Gold color metal and epoxied shield shaped device, 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height, blazoned as follows: Per fess embattled Or and Sable, issuing from dexter chief a spear of the second, point to sinister, in base five mullets in fess, above a lamp of knowledge of the first; all within a diminished bordure of the second. Attached below the shield a Black bi-parted scroll inscribed CARPE SCIENTIAM in Gold letters.


Symbolism

Gold and black are the district colors. The spear suggests empowerment, illustrating the districts mascot, the Warrior. The five stars symbolize honor, leadership, unity, professionalism and officership, core elements of the JROTC program. The lamp denotes knowledge and success in academics. The Latin words CARPE SCIENTIAM translates to English SEIZE THE KNOWLEDGE, which highlights the importance of education.


Background

The shoulder loop insignia authorized 4 March 1983.  It was amended to change the name of the school and update the description and symbolism of the new design on 12 April 2016.
