Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a white embroidered disc, edged yellow, displaying a stylized yellow figure of General George Washington, detailed red, kneeling in prayer in front of four blue tree trunks, all within a blue designation band edged with a 1/8 inch yellow border and inscribed VALLEY FORGE MILITARY COLLEGE in yellow letters. Overall dimensions are 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter.


Symbolism

The figure of General George Washington kneeling in prayer at Valley Forge, PA, alludes to the location of the school, reflecting the cadets dedication to honor and reverence for the leadership qualities exhibited by our founding father.

Description

A gold color metal and epoxied device, 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Paly of thirteen Gules and Argent, two swords in saltire Or, points upward, surmounted by a bezant bearing the representation of General George Washington kneeling in prayer in front of landscape of trees, all encircled by a designation band Azure, a disc at base with the inscription VALLEY FORGE MILITARY COLLEGE of the third; on a chief of the fourth, thirteen mullets of the third; above the shield an eagle displayed grasping in its dexter talon an olive branch and in its sinister talon three arrows fesswise of the third. 


Symbolism

The shield and crest reflect the cadets patriotism to school, community and country. The crossed sabers reflect devotion to duty. The figure of General George Washington kneeling in prayer symbolizes the cadets heritage and reflects strength of character through humility and faith.


Background

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 17 April 1997, it is hereby cancelled due to a new design on 7 April 2016.
