Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a gray disc edged a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) maroon border, the overall dimensions are 3 inches (7.62 cm) the upper half of an inner maroon disc above a white Saluki hunting dog garnished maroon; arced above the maroon inner disc, on the gray, the inscription SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY and arced below the hunting dog the inscription AT CARBONDALE all letters maroon, 1/4 inch (.64 cm) in height.    


Symbolism

Maroon and white are the colors of the University.  The Saluki hunting dog is the mascot of the University.

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 30 November 1982, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 6 May 2016.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-260)

Description

A gold color metal enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a maroon enamel shield with a black enamel horizontal band bearing a white enamel Saluki hunting dog; the shield with an enveloping gold scroll, horizontal across the top of the shield, segmented along the sides and arced in base, inscribed SIUC across the top and DEO VOLENTE in base, all letters Maroon.


Symbolism

Maroon and white are the colors of the University.  The Saluki hunting dog is the mascot of the University.

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 10 February 1983, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 6 May 2016.
