Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a white disc shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/16 inch (.16 cm) brown border, two yellow wings conjoined surmounted by a cross with the points at each ends, three radiating above and two radiating below the cross; all encircled by a white designation band edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) brown border and inscribed ST BONAVENTURE above and UNIVERSITY below in brown letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.  The overall diameter is 3 inches (7.62 cm). 


Symbolism
Brown and white are the school colors.  The elements are taken form the schools seal.

Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 21 April 1982.  It was amended to correct the subdued colors on 6 June 1990, currently amended to update the update the manufacturing drawings on 6 July 2016. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-61)

Description

A Gold color metal and epoxy shield shape device, blazoned as follows:  Brn, on a plate encircled by a wreath of myrtle Or, an Indian head of the first, Headdress of the second, a chief Argent; in base a scroll Or inscribed, BONA PACIS VENTURA of the first.


Symbolism

Brown and white are the University colors.  The Indian head alludes to the territory in which the University is located and also to the name by which the school athletic teams are known, the Brown Indians.  The Latin motto is translated to English The blessing of peace to come.

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 29 December 1936, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings on 6 July 2016.
